October 5th (last Monday) I turned 17! My family usually does a “birthday month” instead of putting a ton of emphasis on one day where everything has to be perfect. Too much pressure, am I right? I’m a junior, so when we get a field trip, missing school is appreciated a little more than when I was in second grade. Of course, no one likes Mondays, and no one wants their birthday to land on a Monday, BUT on this particular Monday, the junior class had a field trip (a group of nuns taught us how to dance traditional Jewish dances… hey, I’ll take what I can get).
My mom woke me up with a hug and an Alex and Ani bracelet (we have a tradition of getting one for special occasions, so each bracelet has a memory). I had my morning smoothie and headed to school (knowing I wasn’t going to have to do any schoolwork is always a bonus).
I got to school and was welcomed with hugs and presents from so many of friends! I’m so stunned and grateful to see the kind of people surrounding me in my life. All these letters and presents are amazing and I’m so grateful, but I’m even more grateful for the type of friendships I’ve been making along the way. Without further adieu, my birthday haul!
